CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — The Clayton County Sheriff’s Office and the Lovejoy Police Department have arrested a man in Chatham Townhomes at Chatham Drive and Dougherty Place.

Lovejoy police pulled over Cornelius LaMont Davis for a traffic stop on Tuesday evening. Davis was wanted in connection with an aggravated assault case in Atlanta where a gun was used.

Lovejoy police said Davis ran away from the traffic stop and into his home in the townhome community.

Deputies and officers had the community blocked off for hours.

The Clayton County Sheriff’s Office SWAT unit entered his townhome to search for him.

Officials told Channel 2 that Davis was not found inside the main living space of his townhouse after a search and believed he may have crawled into the attic.

After a search of his attic, they found a hole going into a neighbor’s attic. The sheriff’s office obtained a search warrant and found Davis hiding in his neighbor’s empty townhome.

Davis now faces his original aggravated assault charge, plus an additional one when they say he tried to hit a deputy while trying to escape.

He also faces a burglary charge for breaking into his neighbor’s townhome.
