CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga — Clayton County announced its new interim fire chief in a Facebook post on Tuesday.
The interim chief will be Assistant Fire Chief/Chief Financial Officer Tim Sweat, according to the department.
Last week, the department announced that former Fire Chief Landry D. Merkison stepped down as chief to take on a new role as Deputy Chief Operating Officer for Clayton County.
Sweat has been in the fire service for 34 years, beginning his career in the fire service in 1989 as a volunteer with the Jonesboro Fire Department and has served with Clayton County Fire & Emergency Services since January 1999.
