CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — The man accused of shooting a Clayton County police officer Wednesday afternoon is now in custody.
Clayton County police responded to a shopping center on Riverdale Road to reports of an armed robbery. Police said a suspect shot Officer Ryan Richey and a robbery victim before he ran from the scene.
Police later identified the suspect as Arterio Crumbley and shared a photo of the 25-year-old. Crumbly turned himself in to police around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Officer Richey had surgery, but has since been released from the hospital. The other victim’s identity has not been released.

The shooting happened around 2 p.m. Wednesday. Neighbors called Channel 2 Action News to report numerous police vehicles in the Riverdale and College Park areas.
NewsChopper 2 flew over the scene and spotted several officers and law enforcement vehicles at an apartment complex directly behind the shopping center.

There was also a massive police presence at the North Clayton Village Plaza shopping center, where dozens of law enforcement vehicles and officers gathered in a parking lot after the shooting.
Dozens of patrol cars accompanied an ambulance carrying Richey to Atlanta Medical Center.
Three schools, Northcutt Elementary, North Clayton Middle and North Clayton High School were placed on lockdown due to the police activity nearby.
