CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — The Clayton County sheriff and police chief say they have seen a major drop in felony crimes across the county.
Sheriff Levon Allen and Chief Kevin Roberts sat down exclusively with Channel 2 Investigative Reporter Mark Winne and told him that felony crimes have dropped 22%.
They say that includes the lowest homicide numbers in roughly a decade.

“Those numbers represent lives saved. You’re talking about a 39% reduction in our homicides. That means that we almost saved double the lives we saved the previous year, in my mind,” Roberts said.
They say one of the keys to making that happen is collaboration between their departments.
“A wise man told me if you wanna go somewhere fast, go by yourself. If you wanna go far, you go together,” Allen said.

Roberts says the only violent crime numbers that increased last year were for rape and involuntary servitude, each category saw an increase of two cases.
The chief says specialized units like his Criminal Apprehension and Gang Enforcement Unit are key to their strategy.
Allen says his office has eight specialized units.
He acknowledged that the jail, like many, has problems, but he maintains that putting teams on the streets does not distract from the number of corrections officers available.
