CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — The Clayton County sheriff says 20 members of the jail’s command staff have either been fired or put on unpaid administrative leave from the sheriff’s office.
Sheriff Victor Hill said an internal affairs investigation found “unauthorized abuse of over-time added up to nearly $1 million in a 3-month period of the fiscal year that started in July.”
In a news release, Hill said supervisors in charge of managing and approving overtime approved a large amount of overtime for themselves without a request or authorization from a superior.

“Supervisors would then get other supervisors of equal or lower rank to put the overtime in the pay system for them since the system does not allow them to enter in their own over-time,” the release said.
Hill said more than half the commanders that were terminated have been replaced already. The Sheriff’s Office said the internal investigation will now be forwarded to the Clayton County District Attorney’s Office.
