Family of woman killed at QT says boyfriend randomly shot her as she pumped gas

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. — A woman shot to death at a Clayton County QuikTrip gas station was killed by her boyfriend, family members say.

Whitney Breanna Sloan, 26, was shot as she pumped gas at the gas station on Riverdale Road near College Park Monday. Police have arrested 18-year-old Ja’Quarius Thomas in her murder.

Channel 2′s Tom Jones talked to Sloan’s siblings, who said that she was a lovable person who always wanted to help people. They said that is likely what cost her her life.

“It’s like she attracted to broken people,” Sloan’s sister, Latarah Freeman, said.

Freeman said she saw her sister’s death coming, and that Thomas was an angry person.

“He just had a rage part of him that I didn’t like, and I was like, he don’t have nothing to live for,” Freeman said. “He would hurt her and he would hurt himself.”

Warrants indicate that Sloan was pumping gas around 10:30 p.m. and Thomas was in the car. Witnesses said that all of a sudden, they saw gunfire from inside the car hit Sloan.

Surveillance video then showed Thomas administering first aid to her. She died at the scene.

Police have charged Thomas with malice murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and theft by receiving stolen property. Police said the gun he used was stolen.

Sloan’s family wants answers.

“They had just left my aunt’s house like, ‘We going to the store. We will be right back,’” Freeman said.

Thomas is being held without bond.
