The officer tried to follow the car and eventually noticed a four-vehicle accident about a mile from where the driver was headed.
The driver in another vehicle was killed. That driver has not been identified. It’s unclear how many people were injured.
It is unclear if the driver who went the wrong way on the interstate was experiencing a medical emergency or if he or she was impaired, according to police.
Police did say the driver who crashed appeared to be at fault but did not say if the driver was facing any charges.
Clayton County police told Channel 2 Action News delays are expected to last for multiple hours.
