Atlanta airport snow

ATLANTA — A ground stop of flights to and from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport has ended early.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the ground stop was placed at about 10 a.m. to last until 2 p.m., with a possibility of being extended between 30% to 60% for flights, as a result of the severe winter weather conditions hitting the metro Atlanta area.

As of about 1:30 p.m., a Channel 2 Action News reporter learned that the ground stop may be ending before 2 p.m. The FAA system for delays and ground stops reports delays will be in effect until about 10 p.m. Friday.

According to FlightAware, 436 flights from Atlanta have been cancelled and another 214 delayed, while 442 flights heading to Atlanta have been cancelled and 225 delayed, as of about noon Friday.

Delta Air Lines announced it would be providing travel waivers for its passengers after “proactively” canceling about 500 flights. The company said in a statement that they’ve issued a fare-difference waiver for customers to move bookings around the storm forecast as well.

All five Delta runways at Hartsfield-Jackson were closed at 9:20 a.m., the company said.
