More than 1.6 million people expected to travel through Atlanta airport for Labor Day holiday

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga — More than 1.6 million passengers are expected to travel to, from, or through Hartsfield-Jackson Airport for the Labor Day weekend.

Projections from the airport predict Friday will be the busiest day of travel, with more than 300,000 passengers expected to visit the world’s busiest airport.

The airport advises travelers to arrive at least two hours before their flight time and to thoroughly inspect their luggage. Travelers can monitor the airport’s website and social media channels of their specific airlines to learn the latest on flight times, including delays and cancellations.

Massive delays and cancellations were an issue over the Memorial Day travel weekend in Atlanta, not only at the airport here but around the country.

New federal data shows complaints doubled in the first half of this year compared to 2021 with flight problems and refunds topping the list of frustrations.

Going into the final big summer travel weekend, the U.S. Department of Transportation launched a tool for passengers to know their rights.

The online dashboard lists the top 10 U.S. airlines and what services they guarantee if your flight is canceled or delayed. The list includes help re-booking to things like meal vouchers, hotel stays if stuck overnight and transportation to and from the airport.
