Clayton County, Ga. — Clayton County police saved newborn puppies who were in danger of drowning last week, the department wrote on Facebook.

On April 5, the department’s animal control office took a call about puppies drowning at a residence and responded to the 6000 block of Planters Court in Morrow.

According to the owner, the mother dug a space for her puppies, however, that space filled with water quickly where the newborn puppies were.
ACO Mathis and Billings assisted in the rescue of the pups. Billings laid on the ground in a mound of mud, while it was raining to attempt to reach the puppies by hand.

Mathis grabbed the puppies to assure that they were alive, dried them off, and took them to their owner.
Six of the seven puppies were saved in the end, animal control officials said.
