Cobb County college student killed in crash

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A Cobb County family is grieving the loss of a college student killed in a crash.

"It's so sad. She was just 21," Miriam Knight said. "It can happen to anyone but I just never thought it would happen to me."

Knight told Channel 2's Matt Belanger that she didn't want to talk about her daughter's death, she felt she had to.

Taylor Moore studied communications at college and wanted to be a television reporter. Knight told Belanger she wanted to share her daughter's story with us as a tribute to her life.

"He just said I'm sorry, Ms. Knight, but she didn't make it," Knight said.

Moore died in a crash Thursday morning in middle Georgia, near Fort Valley State University where she went to school.

There are few details about what caused Moore to lose control in the single-vehicle crash.

"Whatever happened, the car just flipped, so she passed away immediately," Knight said.

Friday, family members gathered at their home in Powder Springs.

They shared memories and grieved and described Moore as friendly, fashionable, ambitious and kind.

"That was my sweet girl," Knight said.

Adding to the difficulty of the situation, Knight told Belanger she recently switched jobs and allowed Moore's life insurance policy to lapse.

"I didn't think it would be needed, especially this soon," Knight said.

Now the family is scrambling to pay funeral expenses and looking to a higher power for strength.

"I walk by faith so I know she is with my father now, but I miss her and I love her," Knight said.

Funeral arrangements are pending. In lieu of flowers, the university is asking that donations be made to the Go Fund Me account set up to assist the family with funeral costs.
