18-year-old killed, another teen seriously injured in crash on I-75

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Cobb County police are investigating a crash on I-75 that left an 18-year-old dead and another teenager seriously injured Sunday night.

Police officials say that just before 9 p.m., they responded to an accident involving a tractor-trailer on I-75 southbound between Delk Road and Windy Hill Road.

Police said a Toyota Camry with two 18-year-olds inside was stopped in the 4th lane from the left when a tractor-trailer slammed into the back of the car.

The two 18-year-olds were thrown out of the car. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The other 18-year-old was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The two 18-year-olds have not been identified pending notification of next of kin.

The tractor-trailer’s driver, 56-year-old Sean Fletcher, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Investigators believe a mechanical issue may have contributed to the crash. Anyone with information is asked to call 770-499-3987.
