COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A student is in critical condition, but there is no threat to the public after a shooting at a middle school in Cobb County on Wednesday, district officials say.
Cobb County police and Cobb County School Police responded to an incident at Lindley Middle School in Mableton just before 3 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon with reports of a person shot.

Lindley Middle School was secured and immediately placed on lockdown.
School district spokespeople say a female student “tragically used a firearm to commit self-harm” in the school’s bathroom. She was rushed to the hospital.
“The student is in critical condition, surrounded by their family and loved ones, and our thoughts are with them,” a district spokesperson wrote.
The school district says the weapon was quickly secured.

It’s unclear if the shooting happened inside the school or on school grounds. Investigators say the campus has been cleared and is secure.
Parents can pick up their children at Leland United Methodist Church on Veterans Memorial Highway, which is down the street from the middle school.
There is no word on possible suspects or motives.
