Twenty-six-year-old Ahmad Rucker, of Cobb County, is behind bars after police said he raped and beat a 74-year-old grandmother, in front of her 5-year-old grandchild.

Channel 2′s Audrey Washington obtained the warrant.

The woman told investigators that Rucker broke into her home and attacked her. She suffered a broken shoulder, nose and bruising to most of her body.

Police arrested Rucker and charged him with rape, burglary, battery, child cruelty and other offenses.

On Monday, Washington went to the Cobb County address listed for Rucker. She spoke with a woman at the home and asked about the charges.

“We’re just as surprised as anybody else right now,” said the woman.

“Without knowing anything about this young man or anything that led up to it, it seems like he chose a target that was less able to defend themselves, may have been an easier target as far as power and control,” said Dr. Rebecca Johnson Osei, a clinical psychologist.

Johnson-Osei has never treated Rucker, but she has studied the minds and behaviors of rapists.

“Why do people rape at all? A lot of people think it’s about sex, but it’s not. It’s about power and control,” Johnson-Osei explained to Washington.

Johnson-Osei said in this case the age difference between the suspect and the alleged victim, is particularly disturbing.

“Makes me wonder what’s going on with him from a mental health standpoint,” said Osei.

“And to know that a five-year-old was there, she was present that makes me question his mindset,” she added.
