Braves unveil details for tallest building in Cobb County

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — The Atlanta Braves announced the newest development at The Battery Atlanta which will change Cobb County's skyline.

A new, 420-foot tall skyscraper will go up off Circle 75 Parkway near SunTrust Park.

The Braves, Gov. Nathan Deal and Thyssenkrupp Elevator Americas unveiled the changes at a news conference on Thursday.

Last week, county leaders approved a proposal to increase the maximum height on a property near the ballpark.

The new HQ will house more than 900 full-time employees, bring more than 650 new jobs to Georgia, and will trial new concepts, including the world’s first rope-free and sideways-moving elevator system, the MULTI.

"We needed an international airport. We will have thousands and thousands of employees and customers coming to visit us at our new complex," Thyssenkrupp's President and CEO Richard Hussey told Channel 2's Craig Lucie.

Hussey said the "live, work and play" environment that Battery offers is perfect for the more than 1,000 employees they will bring and more than 650 jobs they will create.

"Where there are very good schools neighborhoods and world class retail entertainment options. This is another one of those things we can add to our resume," he said.

Deal also shared what this means for Cobb County.

"It’s a great symbol for Cobb County to be part of growth taking place in metro Atlanta," Deal said.

Braves Development CEO Mike Plant told said the Battery is nearly fully occupied from a retail, office and living space and this will boost the local economy even more.

"They are bringing thousands of visitor clients to this region who will stay three to five nights apiece," he said.

The total cost is more than $200 million.
