‘Blue Thanksgiving’ volunteers feed first responders on Thanksgiving Day

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Thanksgiving Day started early for dozens of volunteers in Cobb County as “Blue Thanksgiving” aimed to feed hundreds of law enforcement members and first responders throughout metro Atlanta.

“We have hot meals and cold meals depending on the time of day they come in,” said Blue Thanksgiving’s president Kim Peace Hill.

Volunteers packed and prepared meals to feed more than 400 officers, deputies and essential personnel who are working on Thanksgiving.

National talk show host Nancy Grace and her family were among the volunteers that personally delivered meals.

“I want my children to know just how hard lawmen and law women work,” said Grace.

Channel 2′s Elizabeth Rawlins followed Grace and her family through the whole process as they loaded their van, drove to downtown Marietta and delivered food to Marietta police officers.

The annual tradition may no longer be a surprise when volunteers arrive, but the gratitude and appreciation never wavers.

There’s a lot on the table to sacrifice by working on Thanksgiving, but it’s nothing compared to the sacrifices these heroes make on a daily basis.

“I want them to know just how much they mean to us,” said Grace.

Organizers with Blue Thanksgiving will now transition to planning and preparing for their annual “Blue Family” project which sponsors five law enforcement officers during the Christmas holiday.
