COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Cobb County commissioners approved multiple years of sewage and water rate hikes for residents on Monday.
According to the agenda item, the rate increase begins April 1, 2025 and will continue yearly through Jan. 1, 2029, leading to a more than 20% increase in rates from the current cost per month.
Starting in April, residents will see a combined increase of nearly 3%, split between a 2.5% water charge increase and a 3.5% increase for wastewater, or sewage.

“For the average residential water, sewer, and stormwater customer, the change would result in a monthly increase of $1.90, which is a 2.8% increase in the total monthly bill,” according to county documents.
Afterward, the county voted to approve 5% yearly increases each year beginning in January 2026 through January 2029, meaning there will be four 5% increases, for a collective 20%.
Additionally, the county documents said that “due to anticipated increases in wholesale water costs and planned wastewater treatment plant projects, the Water System proposes that the Board of Commissioners also adopt annual 3.5% increases in water and wastewater commodity charges and the wholesale government wastewater rate for 2026 through 2029 to be effective January 1st of each year.”
The county will also be adding a $25 return trip fee for water services, the rate documents show.
