Cobb County elementary school shot up twice in one week

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Twice this week, administrators at Chalker Elementary School arrived in the morning to find bullet holes in the building.

Police say they are searching for the person responsible for shooting at the Cobb County school off of Booth Road in Kennesaw.

Luckily, no students or staff were at the school when the shootings occurred in the middle of the night.

Channel 2′s Bryan Mims was at the school on Friday where he saw extra police around the campus.

Mims saw parents leaving the school with their children throughout the day.

Kourtnay Hannon learned of the damage from an email the school sent to parents. She said she didn’t waste any time coming to pick up her daughter.

“We don’t know what’s going on. Apparently, they don’t know what’s going on, so just to be on the safe side. I don’t know if this is some type of warning from whoever is doing this,” Hannon said.

The Cobb County School District released a statement to Channel 2 Action News on Friday that read:

Twice in the past week, in the middle of the night with no students or staff on campus, local administration found bullet damage at Chalker Elementary.

The police are aware, have been investigating, will continue to investigate, and additional police officers will be on campus throughout the day.

We are not aware of any specific threat to our school, students, or staff -- and teaching and learning continues, uninterrupted.

It’s unclear if the school was targeted or was hit by stray gunfire.

“I’m worried mainly because I don’t know why this person has decided to walk around on with a gun on school property, whether or not there’s people around,” parent Christian Pacheco said.
