The Cobb County D.A’s office announced early Friday morning they’ve charged 55-year-old Christopher Milton of Marietta with kidnapping, rape and aggravated assault for the incident from 1990. Investigators got a warrant for Milton’s arrest at the beginning of the week. Milton is in custody at the Cobb County jail.

The D.A’s office said the break in their case came after they utilized funding for the Sexual Assault Kit Initiative which allowed them to test samples from sexual assault kits and property held in evidence for DNA and other matching features.

Once that was done, they were able to place the evidence sample in a database to help determine if investigators could match the results to a potential suspect. The D.A’s office said that’s how their investigations team was able to zero in on Milton.
