COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A man from Cobb County is currently in Poland on the edges of the war helping families who are escaping the war-torn Ukraine.

Raj Armani says that because his wife, Jenny, is from Ukraine, he knew he had to do something to help.

The Marietta man left his metro Atlanta home a few days ago and is now on the edge of a war zone.

“At the moment we realized that, a chill ran down our spine because we’ve never been so close to a war zone,” Armani said.

He told Channel 2′s Justin Wilfon that he arrived on the Polish border with Ukraine earlier this week.

“We had this compelling feeling to do something, but it was unclear what should we do,” he said. “When the invasion happened, it kind of felt like the ground slipped under our legs.”

From their Cobb County home, the couple made a plan to help 100 Ukrainian families.

From his apartment in Poland, Raj Armani described to Wilfon what he’s seen over the last several days.

“Systematic chaos. There are people wandering. There are people who just entered the new country. They’re trying to find information, they’re trying to find internet, they’re trying to find restrooms,” he explained.

His plan is to provide families with temporary housing, groceries and whatever else they need to rebuild their lives in a new country.

So far, he has helped six families. He’s set up a Gofundme to help raise money to help many more.

“Be thankful for the freedom we have. Be thankful for the blessings we have. We realize that more when we meet people for whom the blessings and freedom were taken away,” he said.
