Cobb County SWAT standoff ends in 2 deaths, police say

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A five-hour standoff at a Cobb County home ended in a murder-suicide with the suspect killing himself.

Police confirmed the deaths at the scene to Channel 2′s Darryn Moore.

Cobb County police and SWAT teams were called to a domestic situation at a home on Brinkley Road just after 10 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said it started off as a family argument and an armed man barricaded himself inside the home shortly after.

The SWAT team tried to negotiate with the gunman. After no response, they turned on their sirens and fired a flashbang.

The gunman was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The relationship between the gunman and victim is unconfirmed at this time.

Other family members were able to get out. Investigators are working to find out what led to the argument.

This is the second armed standoff in Cobb County in less than a week.

Over the weekend, Unsfored Thurmond III was shot and killed by a Smyrna police officer after pointing a gun he had been holding at the officers.
