Cobb County Schools says students, staff won’t have to wear masks going forward

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Cobb County Schools says starting June 7, face masks will be optional for all school district students and staff.

A letter from Superintendent Chris Ragsdale said the updated guidelines will apply to all summer activities and the 2021-2022 school year.

“Any individual wishing to continue wearing a mask while attending school and/or school events should feel free to do so,” Ragsdale said. “Despite incredible challenges, we have successfully navigated a school year that has been interrupted in every imaginable way by COVID-19. We will continue providing opportunities for every Cobb student to succeed when our students return to school in August.”

Last week, Gov. Brian Kemp signed an order preventing school districts from implementing mask mandates.

The 22-page order prevents districts from having mask mandates, but it doesn’t prevent parents, students or teachers from wearing one if they want to.

Ragsdale ended the letter by saying his administration and teachers across the district are working hard to prepare for the next school year.
