COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A Cobb County judge is hilariously saving Christmas for parents this year by issuing a “judicial order” banning Elf on the Shelf.
Judge Rob Leonard tweeted the mocked-up order last week.
“Tired of living in Elf on the Shelf tyranny? Not looking forward to the Elf forgetting to move and causing your kids emotional distress? I am a public servant and will take the heat for you. My gift to tired parents,” Leonard wrote. “P.S. - If you love your elf, keep your elf. No contempts.”

Elf on the Shelf is a Christmas tradition in which parents move a stuffed elf around the house every night to keep an eye on whether kids are naughty or nice.

In the order, Leonard writes that “the Court finds ‘The Elf on the Shelf,’ hereinafter ‘Elves,’” is a distraction to school students and a risk to kids’ emotional health and well-being.

Leonard said that when parents forget to move the elves, it can leave kids in emotional distress.

“The undersigned recalls a horrific incident in his own home where three children were sent to school in tears, with one child being labeled an ‘Elf Murderer’ and accused of making the elf ‘lose his magic,’” Leonard wrote. “The Court has no doubt that day of education was lost on everyone.”
Leonard goes on to write that, given the risks to kids coupled with COVID-19 and supply chain issues, the court is banishing all Elf on the Shelfs in Cobb County.
“Elf on the Shelf” was written by Georgia mom Carol Aebersold and her daughter Christa Pitts. Aebersold created the tradition for her twin daughters when they were children.
