Cobb school bus drivers receiving hefty bonus after working during the pandemic

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — School bus drivers and monitors in Cobb County will now receive a bonus at the end of the year, thanks to Superintendent Chris Ragsdale.

The superintendent announced Tuesday that the district would be offering a $1,200 retention bonus to all bus drivers and monitors come December.

To be eligible for the bonus, drivers and monitors must be employed by September 24.

“Superintendent Ragsdale talks a lot about our Team. Our bus drivers and monitors are the first Team member many of our students and parents see every day. We want to do everything we can to hire the best and keep the best,” said Chief Operations Officer Marc Smith.

This comes after bus drivers have again started transporting students to and from school during the height of the pandemic.

Earlier this week, Cobb County Schools reported over 800 new cases.

The district also does not currently have a mask mandate in effect. Many parents protested in front of the district headquarters last week and called for a mask mandate. Other parents are considering other schooling options if the district does not begin requiring masks.
