A couple from Mexico was arrested in Austell after authorities found eight kilos of heroin valued at $400,000 inside their home -- stashed in their 2-year-old child's bedroom.

Witnesses said state, local and federal authorities raided the home on Veterans Memorial Highway in Austell on Friday.

Channel 2's Chris Jose spoke to neighbors, who were shocked to see police swarm their street.

"I saw all kind of police out there. I mean there was all kind of cars," one witness told Jose.  "I looked over and the whole yard was slapped full of them."

Authorities confirmed Juan DeJesus and Reyna Romero are members of a Mexican drug cartel, though a spokesperson wouldn't say which. They are accused of trafficking the drugs from their home.

Homeland Security said the arrest of the couple is part of a much bigger operation involving a drug trafficking organization in the metro Atlanta area.

According to a warrant Jose obtained, the heroin was lying on the floor inside a spare bedroom. Jose learned the couple's daughter had easy access to the drugs. She was taken into the state Division of Family and Children Services' custody.

DeJesus and Romero are booked in the Cobb County Jail with no bond.
