COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A fire tore through a Kennesaw day care Sunday morning, destroying the building and leaving dozens of parents without child care.

The fire broke out at Stars of Tomorrow Academy on Busbee Pkwy in Cobb around 6 a.m. Sunday morning.

“Thank goodness there were no kids inside, no teachers. We were closed,” said daycare teacher Cassandra Golden.

No one was inside the building and no one was injured, officials say. Firefighters said the flames were so intense that firefighters had to back off their efforts after the roof collapsed.

Channel 2's Lauren Pozen spoke with the owner, who is worried about where dozens of children will go tomorrow when their parents go to work. Shenette Zachary said over 100 children won't have a place to go on Monday.

"It is unfortunate for this tragedy and I just pray to God that we can get these families taken care of," Zachary said.

Zachary said her family owns various day cares in Georgia and that she plans to rebuild this location for the children at Stars of Tomorrow and the staff.

“We are passionate about this we are passionate about children and families and we are going to take care of it we are going to take care of everything," Zachary said.

But parents are worried about what to do next.

Breanna Coleman told Channel 2's Rikki Klaus she plans to lean on family for childcare for now.

“She’ll go to work with my mom and then we’ll work out plans after that. Probably find another daycare for a little while to go to until they get back on their feet," she said.

Another daycare and some teachers have offered to help watch kids without anywhere to go.

Fire investigators are still investigating the cause of the blaze.
