COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A mother says her teenage son died alone in a hospital bed after Cobb County police shot him twice.

Now, family members are demanding to see video of the incident.

Channel 2 Cobb County Bureau Chief Chris Jose spoke to the police chief about the shooting, who called him while on vacation.

What we know for sure is that a 17-year-old has died, and his family wants to know what really happened.

“Leave this cruel world behind. Spread your wings and fly high my big baby. I love you forever,” were the last words from Vincent Truitt’s mother that she spoke during a Facebook Live video.

Family members created a public Facebook page to honor Truitt. Someone posted a sign that says, “two bullets to the back killed a dream of a teen.”

Truitt’s family is demanding the release of all video related to the deadly police shooting.

“I think what needs to be done is let the independent investigation be completed and turned over to the DA’s office,” Cobb County Police Chief Tim Cox told Jose.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is handling the case, which is standard in shootings involving police officers.

A GBI spokesperson told Jose that this investigation is still open and that the police report and video evidence cannot be released yet.

On July 13, GBI said Cobb police tried to stop three teens in a stolen car on Riverside Drive. The driver led officers on a chase and stopped behind a building.

“What happens at this point is really, really fast. Super fast,” Cox said.

Cox said officers approached the stolen car and two teens ran. The GBI said one of them brandished a handgun and an officer fired his own.

“The young man tells the officer or asks the officer, ‘why did you shoot me? I’m dying. I’m dying.’ Can you confirm that?” Jose asked Cox.

“That is what I would consider in the realm of the GBI’s investigation,” Cox said.

Truitt’s family and their attorney are expected to hold a news conference on Friday. A rally is also scheduled for Saturday.

Cox said the officer who shot Truitt remains on the force.
