No criminal charges for 3 students who caused 'Code Red' lockdown at local HS

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Authorities in Cobb County are investigating a threat at Campbell High School.

Police told Channel 2 Action News that there was a threat made via walkie-talkie.

The Cobb County Police Department is assisting Smyrna police and campus police with the investigation. Video from NewsChopper 2 showed a very active scene with heavy police presence Monday afternoon.

Police told Channel 2 Action News that three students were detained, but no criminal charges were filed. Shortly after 3 p.m., the "Code Red" lockdown was lifted.

Parents were allowed to pick up students at the soccer field off Ward Street "as the event progressed," according to police.

"I was scared, scared for my life because I didn't want to lose my life," student Rayniqua Christopher said.

Christopher is a senior at Campbell High School. Her sister, Raynysha, is in ninth grade.

"It was really a scary moment when we thought we were (going to) die and stuff," Raynysha Christopher said.

"I freaked out, and they sent this massive text message saying not to come to the school, but how do you not when you get this text message saying not to come to the school?" parent Coshima Houston asked.

The Cobb County School District sent Channel 2 Action News the following statement:

"Administrators learned of a rumor of a threat made by on campus at Campbell High School. After a thorough investigation by the Cobb County School Police and Smyrna Police Department, three persons have been detained. All students were and are safe at this time. The code red has been lifted."

"Great response by Cobb County School District. Within probably a few minutes, I got a text saying they are under a code red alert," parent Brian Clark said after picking up his daughter.
