Kennesaw State basketball fans prepare to travel in support of historical March Madness game

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Kennesaw State University Men’s Basketball Team will make history Friday when the Owls play in the March Madness Tournament for the first time.

KSU will play Xavier University in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Owls are the 14 seed.

Fans gathered at the KSU Convocation Center Sunday evening to hear the announcement with the team.

Grant Parry told Channel 2 Action News Courtney Francisco he and his fellow classmates are making plans to travel to North Carolina now.

“We would not miss it for the world, come on now!” said Grant Parry.

Kyle Calandra and his brother David were in the stands behind the team when the announcement came down.

“You know the greatest feeling ever? That times ten,” said Kyle.

“Being in this moment, you couldn’t ask for a better opportunity,” said David.

KSU Bookstore Director Paul Oliphant said he’s been stocking up on March Madness gear for a month.

“They are on fire,” said Oliphant. “They have been playing so good. They are ready to go into this tournament and win. I think it’s going to be really fun to see how they do.”

Former KSU guard, Reginald King, told Channel 2 Action News he’s been at the team’s practices.

“A goal was made this summer. We started out: A-Sun Championship, just keep chipping at the block and keep moving forward,” said King. “Who knows what could happen when you’ve got the right attitude, the right work ethic and everything that comes along with it. The sky is the limit.”
