COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A Kennesaw State University Student is accused of raping a woman on campus.

Campus police arrested Benjamin Wainscott Thursday and charged him with rape.

According to the arrest warrant, the 20-year-old allegedly raped a woman in a dorm room last Tuesday. Police say it happened during a date.

"This girl was on a date and you don't think that's going to happen on a date, but it did," student Olivia Mullis said.

Wainscott confessed to the charge, police said.

"You hear it and you see it. It's happened to me. It's happened to everybody," Mullis said.

The school said the victim was not a student.

Channel 2's Matt Johnson dug through reports and learned there have been five rapes reported on campus since August. Monthly crime logs show six reported campus rapes during the same time period last year.

"It makes me aware of my surroundings. I pay attention to everything and every detail," student Alexis Gill said.

A university spokesperson told Johnson students weren't notified of the most recent incident because "law enforcement officials determined that the suspect was not a threat to campus."

Some students said they want to know what's happening in their dorms.

"You should tell us whether it was random or not," a student said.

KSU requires all students to take violence training and offers victim services and rape aggression defense.

Wainscott is being held at the Cobb County Jail without bond.
