COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A Kennesaw State University student died after a crash on busy South Cobb Drive.

Alan J. Morales-Hernandez, 28, of Marietta, was driving a Toyota that was hit by a Jeep Wrangler shortly after 8 a.m., Cobb police spokeswoman Alicia Chilton said.

Hernandez was an architecture student at KSU.

Investigators said the Jeep was westbound, when the Toyota turned left onto Alumni Drive in the Jeep’s path.

The front of the Jeep hit the right front of the Toyota, Chilton said.

Morales-Hernandez was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The Jeep’s driver, 27-year-old Phillip A. Sangster, of Atlanta, also was taken to Kennestone with non-life-threatening injuries, Chilton said. Sangster is a Cobb County police officer who was off-duty at the time.

Friends described Morales-Hernandez as happy, intelligent and very supportive.

Students said the intersection to turn onto campus is dangerous.

“There’s been times I come out this way and you see cars zooming out like all day,” one student said.

“There’s not even like a median, like middle lane to stop in so you kind of have to go straight into the street,” another student said.

Drivers said there needs to be a change before someone else’s life is taken.

"They need to put like a light or something out here,” a student said.

Some drivers said they avoid the intersection all together and drive down to another entrance to the campus.
