It’s an innovative way to solve and prevent crime in Marietta.
“This new platform is giving us the ability to receive information anonymously that we can use to keep our community safer,” Chuck McPhilamy with the Marietta Police Department told Channel 2′s Cobb County Bureau Chief Michele Newell.
The Marietta PD app was developed by Tip 411 and gives people the ability to submit tips without revealing their identity.
“Now you have the ability to send in photos and videos completely anonymously,” McPhilamy said.
When you download the app, you can see alerts from the police department, like a recent homicide case.
“We are still looking for tips from the public regarding anything to do with that homicide,” McPhilamy said. “They could also just submit a tip, ‘Hey, I think there’s drug activity in my neighborhood.’”
Police said the new tip line is already making a difference.
“We have already received several and those tips are now being assigned to be investigated,” McPhilamy said.
