Metro Atlanta city pairs up two new K-9 teams

MARIETTA, Ga. — A metro Atlanta police department has two new teams of man and man’s best friend hitting the streets.

The K-9s are part of new team-ups in the Marietta Police Department, where they’ll be working to sniff out crime and fetch the bad guys with their new human partners.

The department said in a statement that the two K9s are a Dutch Shepherd and a Belgian Malinois. Both are certified in narcotics detection and other specialties.

According to Marietta police, K-9 Fedor joined MPD in April and has been training with Officer Powell, whose previous partner K-9 Jacquo retired in March.

The other, K-9 Mozes, needed to find a new best friend on the force after his human partner left law enforcement.

Mozes was partnered with Officer Simmons, who was recently honored as a 2022 Rising Star. The two have been training together for several months, according to officers.

Their mission, now accepted, will have them using their skills to detect drugs, track suspects, search articles, and help chase down bad guys on the run.

Mozes and Fedor will be added to the K-9 team roster along with Tyson and Officer Foster, and Crisis Response K-9 Barney and Officer Hill.
