COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Channel 2 Action News has learned that a Cobb County high school is severely overcrowded.
Channel 2's Justin Wilfon spoke with parents at Pebblebrook High School on Wednesday, and one parent said she had no idea her son's school was overcrowded by 700 students.
This week, the Cobb County School District revealed how crowded the school is at a meeting of the Cobb County Board of Commissioners. The school has 2,500 students, but it's supposed to have only 1,800.
"I am a bit surprised now that I do know that, which, that could be troublesome," Lakita Bynes said.
Cobb County Schools’ planning director Charles Sprayberry responded to the commissioners’ questions.
“It would be one thing to be 100 or 200 over, but 700? It’s one of our magnet schools in Cobb County, so it does attract a lot of extra students,” Sprayberry said.

Sprayberry went to the meeting to fight a big, new development, which will plant 90 town homes just a mile from Pebblebrook High School – and ultimately send even more kids to the school.
"Approval of this petition would cause concern for the Cobb County School District,” Sprayberry said.
But commissioners approved it anyway, leaving the school’s overcrowding problem up to the district to solve.
The district said that there are plans to expand Pebblebrook High School in the coming years.
Wilfon reached out to the district three times for more information Wednesday. He's still waiting to hear back.
