COBB COUNTY, Ga. — An arrest warrant has been issued for the mother of a toddler with autism who was found walking alone along a busy Cobb County road.

Bystanders said they found the boy, who is nonverbal and autistic, wandering on Pat Mell Road alone and without shoes.

Channel 2′s Cobb County Bureau Chief Michele Newell spoke exclusively with the boy’s mother, Deasia Williams, who said she is aware of the charges against her and plans to turn herself in and fight the charges against her.

“I’m about to handle that, if not today, then in the morning,” Williams said. " I’m aware, ma’am.”

Williams said she walked to a nearby Chevron store and left her son in the care of a family friend who lives with her.

“My baby was left in the driveway,” she said. “I’m not really comfortable with my son being away from me, and to finally trust someone with my baby and this is what they do. I don’t know how to put it into words.”

Neighbors told Newell off-camera that they have seen the boy alone before.

Williams denied neglecting her child.

“I don’t just leave my child. My child is my best friend. I would never,” Williams said. " This is hard. I take care of my child every day.”

Williams said her son is currently with a family member.
