COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Police say a 22-year-old man was killed when a driver knocked him off his moped and dragged him underneath a car.

The crash happened last Monday around 8:30 p.m. on South Cobb Drive.

Smyrna police said Willie Rainey, 33, was following too closely when he hit Nate Stini, knocking him off his moped and dragging him about 100 feet to Spring Valley Road. Stini was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

"That shows that he was just an aggressive, careless driver that continued for another 100 feet before he stopped," said the victim's father, Nathan Agostini.

Stini’s family said he had waited to ride his moped until he bought a helmet, which he did the day before the crash.

They said the crash happened while Stini was out for a test drive with his new helmet on.

Stini's family said he was looking forward to graduating from Georgia State University and working at Grady Memorial Hospital.

"He had such a good heart, too. He was always out to help people," said the victim's sister, Natalie Stini.

Rainey has been charged with second-degree vehicular homicide and following too closely. He posted bond and was released two days after his arrest.

Stini's family said Rainey's release made it harder for them to move past their loss.

"His whole family is grieving. His friends are grieving and this guy just walked away like nothing," Natalie Stini said.

Rainey could face up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine if convicted.

A GoFundMe page has been set up if you would like to help the family with funeral expenses.
