0 positive tests for tuberculosis so far after possible exposure at Cobb County high school

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — The Cobb & Douglas Public Health Department says so far no students and staff at a Cobb County high school have tested positive for tuberculosis after a possible exposure.

On Tuesday, Channel 2 Action News reported from Walton High School, where approximately 300 students and staff members needed to be tested. On Thursday, health officials returned to the school to learn the results of the tests.

“CDPH tested approximately 200 students and faculty at Walton, on Tuesday, October 29. CDPH returned to the school today, Thursday, October 31, to measure the reactions to the tests where 0 individuals tested positive,” the health department said in a statement.

The other students and faculty who did not get tested at the school will need to get tested by a private physician.

“All individuals with negative test results will require a confirmatory test in 8-10 weeks and will be notified by the school with the date and time for that second test,” the health department said.

Parents told Channel 2 Action News that they are glad to hear of efforts by the health department and school district to contain the spread of infection and prevent a T-B outbreak.

“I’m all for the testing, definitely do that. But it concerns me that it is in existence. That’s a worry,” said parent John Cullom.
