COBB COUNTY, Ga. — The sun is about to set on the name of the stadium the Atlanta Braves call home.
Channel 2′s Tom Jones was at the stadium Wednesday when crews removed the SunTrust Park sign from above right field.
Pretty soon, all the signs will be gone.
The name change comes after a mega merger between SunTrust and BB&T Banks, but the stadium’s new name has not been revealed yet.
Some fans said they hate to see the name go, even though SunTrust has only been the park's name for three years.
"When I come down here, I say 'I'm going to SunTrust Park,'" Braves fan Bob Wolfe said. "So yeah, I wish they wouldn't change it."
Wolfe said he knew the name would be changing soon so he came down to take pictures of the sign that was taken down. He doesn't care one way or the other about a new name.
"We'll get used to whatever it is," Wolfe said.
SunTrust and BB&T is now called 'Truist," which could be the new name.
Jones tested that moniker out on a couple of fans.
"Truist. It doesn't roll off the tongue very well, if I'm being honest," Braves fan Carter Thames said. "I'm a huge Braves fan so I'm going to back them. Just get a ring."
To some fans, the name of the stadium doesn't matter.
"When you are born and raised here, I think you just think of it as the Braves," one fan told Jones.
The Braves have not responded to questions about any potential new names. But the team and officials will host a news conference on Tuesday unveiling the new name.
