Driver killed after crash that shut down I-20 EB in Cobb Count for hours

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — One person is dead after a crash shut down all lanes of Interstate 20 eastbound for hours on Thursday morning.

Triple Team Traffic’s Mike Shields has been following the crash for Channel 2 Action News This Morning.

The crash happened near the Riverside Parkway exit. Police shut down all lanes just after 4 a.m. and traffic backed up for several miles into Douglas County.

Cobb police say a maroon 2008 Pontiac G6 was driving down I-20 when the driver crashed into the median wall and stopped across the eastbound lanes.

A white 2022 Freightliner Cascadia tractor-trailer then crashed into the Pontiac.

The driver of the Pontiac was pronounced dead. That person’s name has not been released.

Both the driver and passenger of the tractor-trailer were not injured.

Lanes slowly started to reopen around 6:50 am.
