Troopers urge caution after driver crashes into GSP patrol car after following too close

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — How close is too close? For one driver, it resulted in a collision with a Georgia State Patrol car.

Around 3 p.m. on Tuesday, a trooper was driving in the I-75 north express lane near the interchange with I-575 in Cobb County.

Officials said as traffic started to slow down, the trooper slowed down as well.

According to GSP, a driver in a silver Dodge Ram was traveling too close behind the trooper, and ended up hitting the back of the patrol car.

In a Facebook post, the Georgia Department of Public Safety sent a reminder to drivers to maintain adequate distance when traveling.

The trooper did suffer minor injuries due to the crash. Officials did not say if the driver was charged or cited.

The driver’s identity was not released.
