Truck driver shot multiple times on I-75; police searching for shooter who sped off

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Cobb County police said a tractor-trailer truck driver was shot multiple times by a driver who sped off on Interstate 75 Wednesday afternoon. Police are calling it case of road-rage.

Police said they responded to reports of a tractor-trailer blocking the highway highway onramp in the northbound lanes near Wade Green Road.

They found the driver suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, at least two of which were in his torso. The driver was able to tell police that a driver shot him and then drove off before he was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Family members said the driver is from Massachusetts but they don’t want to release his name due to safety concerns.

His sister-in-law told Channel 2 Action News that he had his beloved dog Susie in the cab with him. The dog ran away when the driver was shot and the family is desperate to find it.

Family described the dog as small and golden with dark ears and a dark snout and mouth. The dog has on a pink camouflage collar.

Family members said the driver had two gunshot wounds to the stomach, one to the hand and and broken bones. He had surgery but is currently in serious but stable condition.

The truck driver has not been identified, but police said he was shot at least once in the torso. His current condition has not been released, but police said the injuries are life-threatening.

Police said the shooter sped off. So far, they have not been able to get a description of the car or the driver involved. Police are asking anyone who saw the vehicle to contact them.

“We’re hoping someone saw something,” Sgt. Wayne Delk with Cobb County police said.

Police activity blocked all lanes of the highway as emergency responders worked to clear the scene.

The lanes have since reopened.

Deputies open fire along I-85 to stop stolen semitruck Amerido Berrios rode past the scene shortly after the incident ended and told Channel 2′s Dave Huddleston that when he pulled up, it was shocking.
