ATLANTA — If you’re going to spend some time outside today, you may want to rethink it.

A Code Orange air quality alert is forecast for metro Atlanta Friday – meaning those who have air sensitivities will need to avoid prolonged outdoor activities today.

People with lung disease, older adults and children are at a greater risk from exposure to ozone, and people with heart and lung disease, older adults and children are at greater risk from the presence of particles in the air.

Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Karen Minton said temperatures will be in the mid-90s, but the heat index will make it feel around 100 degrees across metro Atlanta and north Georgia.

If you’re going to spend anytime outside, you’re urged to stay hydrated.

There is only a 20 percent chance for rain on Friday. Rain chances increase Sunday and Monday.
