CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — Three students were charged with disrupting a public school after posting on social media about an attack at a high school.
Channel 2 Action News has learned that parents of students at Etowah High School received an email Thursday night about rumors circulating on social media about another threat to the school.
The Cherokee County School District Police Department and the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office said they were aware of the rumors.
"While they contain misinformation that casts doubt on their credibility, police are investigating and, in an abundance of caution, additional police officers will be present at the Etowah High/E.T. Booth Middle campus tomorrow," Barbara Jacoby, the chief communications officer, wrote in the email.

Jacoby said the district takes the safety and security of its students and staff seriously.
The students have been charged by the CCSD police department and will face additional adminstrative disciplinary action.
This potential threat comes just days after students Alfred Dupree and Victoria McCurley allegedly plotted an attack at the school. They are jailed in Cherokee County.
Many parents kept their students out of class Friday because of the rumors. School officials said there were 695 absences at the high school at 209 at E.T. Booth Middle School.
"It was a little weird. No one was there. It was quiet in the lunchroom," junior Cade Gantt said.
Sheriff Frank Reynolds said deputies are looking into the most recent threat as they continue to investigate Dupree and McCurley's social media posts.
"If you've looked at some of their Facebook posts, it's alarming," he said.
Anyone with information about a possible threat is asked to call police.
