PAULDING COUNTY, Ga. — Neighbors are worried about a gas odor in several counties but Atlanta Gas Light is insisting there is nothing to worry about.
On Monday afternoon, the company released a statement saying Williams Energy Company is conducting a controlled release of natural gas in the north portion of the county. They said the odor is expected to dissipate over the next 24 hours.
ATTN Paulding/Cobb County: Atlanta Gas Light is performing maintenance on our pipeline in your area that may result in a strong odor of natural gas. Remember, if you suspect a natural gas leak don’t hesitate to call 877-427-4321. Safety is our highest priority.

Crews are conditioning new pipe with odorized gas. The odorant in the gas released during this process is not dissipating quickly because of current weather conditions. This is causing the odorant to remain low to the ground for Paulding, Cobb and Douglas counties.

The odor is present in Douglas, Paulding and Cobb counties.
Several residents on social media told Channel 2 Action News it smells like rotten eggs.
If you suspect or have concerns about a natural gas leak, Atlanta Gas Light says you can contact them at 1-877-427-4321 and they will be happy to dispatch a technician to your home.
