- The state’s number of confirmed COVID-19 cases is up to 45,070 and 1,962 deaths as of 1 p.m. Thursday. The Georgia Department of Public Health says it will update its website with new data at 9 a.m., 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.
- Gov. Brian Kemp announced several major changes Thursday afternoon including the reopening of bars and nightclubs and that he is allowing professional sports teams to resume training.
- Kemp also announced he is extending the public health emergency until July 12.
- Starting June 1, Georgians can have gatherings of 25 people as long as they maintain 6 feet apart from each other.
- Live performance venues will remain closed.
- Starting May 31, overnight summer camps will be allowed to reopen.
- Starting June 1, professional and amateur sports will be allowed to resume.
- Starting next month, school districts will be allowed to hold summer school with strict social distancing standards in place.
- The Georgia Department of Health announced that 85 hospitals are getting more than 18,000 vials of vials of the drug remdesivir received from the federal government. The drug will be used to treat about 1,676 patients with COVID-19 infection. Here’s a list of all the hospitals receiving the allotment.
- Vice President Mike Pence will travel to Georgia again Friday for a conversation with small business owners about America’s reopening as well as a memorial for evangelist Ravi Zacharias.
- The Atlanta Jazz Festival has been canceled this year.
- The City of Roswell has announced most of its summer programming is canceled including the 4th of July Extravaganza, the Lavender Festival and Alive in Roswell.
- Governor Brian Kemp is expected to update the progress against COVID-19 and the next steps for reopening the state. The news conference is scheduled for 4 p.m. and you can watch it live on Channel 2 Action News.
- More than 5.7 million people worldwide -- including almost 1.7 million in the United States – have been infected with the new coronavirus, and the number of deaths from the outbreak continues to rise.
- Major League Soccer announced they will allow voluntary small workouts for players.
