CORONAVIRUS IN GEORGIA: Drive-thru COVID-19 testing expanded in the state

  • The state’s number of confirmed COVID-19 cases is up to 45,863 and 1,984 deaths as of 7 p.m. Friday. The Georgia Department of Public Health says it will update its website with new data at 9 a.m., 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.
  • President Trump announces U.S. has terminated relationship with the World Health Organization during afternoon news conference.
  • CVS says it is expanding testing for coronavirus with 23 additional test sites at select CVS Pharmacy drive-thru locations across Georgia. Patients must register in advance at CVS.com.
  • Some lawmakers are pushing the federal government to do more to protect health care, transportation, meat processing and other essential workers from COVID-19.
  • Gov. Brian Kemp announced that more Georgia businesses can reopen in a few days and many restrictions will be lifted -- that includes bars and nightclubs.
  • More than 5.8 million people worldwide -- including more than 1.7 million in the United States – have been infected with the new coronavirus, and the number of deaths from the outbreak continues to rise.
  • Fernbank Museum will reopen to members June 1 and to the general public on June 4.
  • The City of Johns Creek is reopening playgrounds, basketball courts and the Newtown Dog Park on June 1.
  • The City of Brookhaven will open city facilities to the public on June 1 but will require visitors and employees to wear face masks.
  • Cobb County PARKS will reopen most of their facilities starting June 1 including outdoor playgrounds, restrooms and aquatic centers.
