- There are now 14,578 confirmed cases of coronavirus with 524 related deaths in Georgia, according to new data released Tuesday. At least 2,858 cases have required hospitalization.
- Gov. Brian Kemp had more of an optimistic tone Tuesday as he spoke with Channel 2 anchor Justin Farmer about the state’s response to the coronavirus pandemic. May 1 is the latest predicted peak date for coronavirus cases in Georgia.
- The Atlanta City Council took action Tuesday to help people who have trouble paying their rent. The council ratified Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms order calling for a temporary moratorium on some evictions for the next 60 days.
- The Transportation Security Agency announced that an officer who worked at the Atlanta airport has died after contracting COVID-19. Dian Phipps was a 14-year veteran, of the TSA. His co-workers remembered him as a “kind and humble person” who was always fun to be around, as well as being a talented singer.
- Gov. Brian Kemp says the state is now expecting to hit the coronavirus peak May 1.
- Public health directors across the state have been ordered to expand testing and criteria. Criteria will now include asymptomatic people who have had close contact with those who are infected with COVID-19.
- The state is building an alternative care facility at the GWCC. Several agencies have started to prepare the site for a surge in patients. It will house Georgians with mild to moderate illness and at max capacity can host 400 ICU beds.
- AAA is now offering free AAA Roadside Assistance to all healthcare workers and first responders in select Georgia cities, regardless of whether they are AAA members.
- DeKalb County Schools says it will end the school year early. Classes will end 4 days early on May 15th for grades PreK-11 instead of May 21st. The school year for seniors will end on May 8th.
- Goodwill has announced they will no longer accept donations after Saturday, April 18 because they are overwhelmed with donations right now.
- The Atlanta Motor Speedway is setting up a mobile market to distribute free food to Hampton residents on April 17 and 24.
