ATLANTA — The Georgia Aquarium is celebrating not only a first for the aquarium, but also the beginning of a new marriage for a Georgia couple.
Crystal and Justin Reynolds were married at the aquarium Sunday underwater in the Ocean Voyager exhibit.
The couple took the plunge 30 feet below the surface, surrounded by ocean life, with their friends, families and about 100 aquarium guests watching on from outside the 6.3 million-gallon tank.
The couple’s voyage started on the online dating site Plenty of Fish. They said even during their first date, they knew they were meant for each other.
One of the things the couple shared was their love for deep-water diving.
The couple visited the Georgia Aquarium in December 2015, when they figured out they could go diving in the aquarium’s ocean exhibit.
That’s when they decided they were going float down the aisle with the fishes.
“We never thought we would get married in an aquarium, but it mixes our love for diving and for one another; it’s something we love doing together,” said Crystal Reynolds.
The couple’s wedding party even got scuba-certified for the occasion so they could be right beside the bride and groom inside the tank.
After the ceremony was over, the couple even had their first dance as man and wife underwater, “dancing” to Ed Sheeran’s song, "Thinking Out Loud."
After the ceremony, the couple headed back to dry land for the reception in the Georgia Aquarium’s ballroom.
