COWETA COUNTY, Ga. — A metro Atlanta middle school sent a letter to parents on Thursday after a gun was found inside of a student’s backpack.

In a statement, Arnall Middle School Principal Stefanie Easterwood told parents around 11:15 a.m. on Thursday, a student notified a teacher that another student had a weapon.

School administrators identified the student, removed them from class and found an unloaded air pistol inside the student’s backpack.

While the student was in possession of the gun, no threats were made. School officials notified law enforcement and “appropriate legal and disciplinary action is being taken,” according to Principal Easterwood.
