Coweta County schools to return to normal operations starting next week

COWETA COUNTY, Ga — Coweta County schools will return to normal operations starting next week as they continue to see improvements in COVID-19 activity across the county.

The hybrid program that students have been participating in will come to an end this week, the district said in an announcement on Wednesday.

All elementary and middle school students who chose face-to-face learning will come back for in-person learning beginning March 1.

High school students who chose in-person learning can choose to return on March 1 or remain virtual for the first two weeks, March 1-12. The district says the goal is to keep the numbers of students low as it continues to monitor transmission rates in the area. The district has designated March 15 as the date all high schools will return to normal operations.

Students who were learning in person can choose virtual learning if they do not feel safe returning to the classroom, but they will have to make special arrangements with the principal.

The letter went on to let parents know how much the district appreciates the support of students and staff during the period of high transmission of COVID-19 in the district.

The district says right now it is seeing decreasing levels of COVID-19 transmission, but say the virus is active in the community. Therefore, preventative safety measures will be in place in the schools. Masks and face coverings, cleaning and disinfecting schools, social distancing where possible, health checks and contact tracing will remain in place at least until the end of the year.

The district will continue to use health guidance to assess the COVID-19 conditions in the community on a school-by-school basis and adjust school operations, according to the letter to the parents. If there are changes, the leaders in the district will let parents know.
